Biden Finds Yet Another Excuse to Punish American Gun Owners

The Biden administration recently announced that it will soon prevent the import of ammunition from Russia into the United States, punishing American gun owners for completely unrelated events.

“New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial,” reads the U.S. Department of State fact sheet.

What is the administration’s rationale for implementing such a ban? The State Department claims the sanctions are being imposed due to the poisoning of a prominent Russian opposition figure by the Russian Federation.

So, Biden—desperately needing to distract from the fact that he just allowed countless American firearms to be taken by the Taliban in Afghanistan—decided that he would punish American gun owners for something that isn’t remotely related to firearms, showing that he’ll use any rationale to push his anti-gun agenda.

“While [the poisoning of Russian opposition figure Aleksey Navalny] may be a viable reason for the United States government to sanction the Russian Federation, the ammunition import restriction seems more aimed at punishing American gun owners and businesses than as a foreign policy tool to influence the Russian Federation,” reported the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA).

The policy will take effect Sept. 7, will remain in place for “a minimum of 12 months,” and can “only be lifted after a 12-month period if the Executive Branch determines and certifies to Congress that Russia met several conditions.”

“It appears that importers will be able to continue to import ammunition that was already approved prior to the publication of the notice in the Federal Register. That ammunition will likely be rapidly consumed due to present demand for ammunition in the United States,” wrote NRA-ILA.

While ammunition exports to the United States make up a minimal portion of the Russian GDP, it is still a significant part of American ammunition supply and, as we’ve seen throughout the past year, ammunition shelves throughout the country are borderline barren, at best. This move by the Biden administration will only exacerbate the ongoing ammunition shortage.

President Joe Biden (D) has made clear his desire to ban even the most-commonly owned types of ammunition. Combine that with the fact that recent actions in Afghanistan have allowed the Taliban to take hold of hundreds-of-thousands of American supplied firearms (who then publicly posed with the firearms in a gloating fashion), as well as the ammunition for those arms, and it’s pretty clear to see that Biden really doesn’t care about law-abiding American gun owners. He’s willing to restrict the supply of ammunition during a shortage for arbitrary reasons; he’s willing to let the Taliban take control of firearms supplied by America with little to no pushback; and yet, he still wants to implement further restrictions on our constitutional rights and to punish American gun owners.

This administration’s recent actions do nothing more than further inhibit the ability to exercise your Second Amendment rights, but perhaps more telling is that it illustrates how the Biden administration will use practically any reason, and any means, to suppress these rights, rational or not.

This is all part of Biden’s larger anti-gun agenda, which includes going after manufacturers domestically, nominating outright anti-Second Amendment activists to prominent positions, and much more.

We’ll keep you updated on any other actions this administration tries to slip through that threaten our Second Amendment rights.
