Your Vote Matters

This is it. Over the last several months, I hope I have made it as clear as possible how critical this year’s elections are to the preservation of the Second Amendment; and now it is time: Get Out And Vote!

There is no question in my mind, and I hope in yours, that there is a stark contrast between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden when it comes to our right to keep and bear arms. It’s day v. night, hot v. cold, and right v. wrong—and Trump is clearly right when it comes to our firearms.

Of course, that means Biden is just plain wrong.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to ban the most popular firearms in America—the semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns so many of us rely on to protect our loved ones, our homes and our communities.

He’s wrong when he says he doesn’t want to just ban new semi-automatic firearms, but also wants to see existing ones turned over to the government via so-called “buybacks.” Once again, you can’t “buyback” something you never owned in the first place. That’s confiscation!

He’s wrong when he says he wants to ban standard-capacity magazines and set arbitrarily-determined limits on how much ammunition we should be allowed to use for protecting our loved ones.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to mandate nonexistent “smart guns” with “James Bond-style” technology that only operate with “DNA and fingerprint” recognition—technology that doesn’t exit and few would rely upon for life-saving devices.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act—a vital legal protection for gun manufacturers and retailers that prevents them from being driven into bankruptcy through frivolous lawsuits that seek to blame them for the actions of violent criminals.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to set arbitrary limits on how often we can exercise our rights protected under the Second Amendment by limiting gun purchases to one a month.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to criminalize the private transfer of firearms.

He’s wrong when he says he wants to use our tax dollars to encourage states to implement gun-licensing schemes.

He’s wrong when he says he wants the federal government to dictate how gun owners will store their firearms.

And that’s just some of what Biden has planned for us should he be elected president.

The bottom line is, Joe Biden is just plain wrong when he tries to blame more than 100 million law-abiding gun owners for the act of violent criminals.

President Trump, however, has shown time and again that he will stand with law-abiding gun owners.

When the Nancy Pelosi-led House passed two draconian anti-gun bills that sought to impose unconstitutional restrictions on the lawful purchase of firearms—H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112—Donald Trump made clear he intended to veto both, should they land on his desk.

Our federal judiciary has been remade under President Trump, who has set a record pace in his first term for appointing judges—including Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh—who respect the Second Amendment, and interpret it as originally intended.

During the early stages of the pandemic, when some states and localities abused their authority to shut down firearms retailers, the Trump administration issued federal guidelines that designated gun stores, ranges, and firearms and ammunition manufacturers as “critical components of the nation’s workforce,” recommending states allow them to continue to operate.

When speaking at his election rallies, one subject Trump rarely fails to mention is his support for the Second Amendment.

Need more evidence of his support? Just read the interview in this very publication. That’s right, Donald Trump took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to sit down with NRA to talk about his support of the Second Amendment.

To be honest, I’m not sure I would have thought it possible that a sitting president would have done such a thing. But that’s just how much Donald Trump thinks of NRA members and our right to keep and bear arms.

That’s why we must support him on Election Day.

But it’s not that simple.

Your vote will be critical, but you need to work to ensure like-minded folks get to the polls to multiply and amplify your vote. We may very well not know the outcome of the election on the evening of Election Day, but mark my words—every vote will matter. I’m counting on your vote, and the votes of your family and friends.

Freedom is on the ballot.
