When you really look at what the gun-ban groups and the politicians they support are saying on social media and in public about our Second Amendment-protected freedom, you find they are mostly saying three things: They repeat talking points designed to divide us; they virtue-signal a false morality even as they ignore the harm their policies often exacerbate; and, perhaps most often, they let us know that they really do want to take this fundamental freedom away from the American people.
Whereas, on the pro-freedom side, this association and the politicians who appreciate our right to keep and bear arms most often talk about enforcing the laws already on the books, focusing our resources on catching and prosecuting actual criminals and coming together to vote for those who support the natural right of self-preservation.
After just a few minutes reviewing what the gun-control activists are saying, it is obvious that they would not win elections outside of places like certain neighborhoods in New York City and San Francisco if it were not for a mostly compliant media shaping their gun-control narratives, purposely avoiding inconvenient facts and doing their best to shun anyone with a fact-based point of view.
So, as we are on the eve of a critical election, here is a sampling of what’s being said.
“Let there be no doubt, the survival of our Second Amendment is very much on the ballot. You know what they want to do ... . The Second Amendment … is under siege. But with me, they’d never get anywhere. We need the [Second Amendment] for safety. Because you know the bad guys are not giving up their guns.”
–Former President Donald J. Trump (R)
“President Trump believes that every American has a God-given right to protect themselves and their family and has proven through his actions that he will defend law-abiding gun owners.”
–Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign
“It is now time for us to take [the gun-control] issue out of the realm of politics and put it in the realm of public health, the way we did with smoking more than a half century ago.”
–U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy (D) told the Associated Press on June 24, 2024
“Let’s ban assault weapons nationwide.”
–Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)
“I promise you, if you care about the future of freedom in this country, like I do, the most meaningful action you can take as an ordinary citizen like me is to join the extraordinary group of men and women who count themselves as NRA members. We are here. We’re ready to fight for our freedoms, and we will win.”
–Ronnie Barrett, NRA board member and founder of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc.
“My Mamaw died shortly before I left for Iraq in 2005. And when we went through her things, we found 19 loaded handguns. Now, the thing is, they were stashed all over her house. Under her bed, in her closet, in the silverware drawer. And we wondered what was going on. And it occurred to us that towards the end of her life, Mamaw couldn’t get around so well. And so, this frail old woman made sure that no matter where she was, she was within arm’s length of whatever she needed to protect her family. That’s who we fight for. That’s American spirit!”
–Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio)
“Governor Walz signed a sweeping package of gun safety bills into law just last year, so it’s no surprise that Vice President Harris, who helped lead the strongest gun safety White House in history, picked him as her running mate … . Everytown will go all out to help Vice President Harris and Governor Walz defeat Trump and Vance ... .”
–John Feinblatt, president of the gun-control group Everytown
“I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to do just that. The 28th Amendment will enshrine in the Constitution common-sense gun-safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, Independents and gun owners overwhelmingly support, while leaving the Second Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition.”
–Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.)
“The NRA is not what many in the mainstream media portray us to be. The NRA is an association of citizens gathered together to defend and to celebrate American values. The essence of the NRA is akin to the National Anthem, Independence Day and the U.S. Constitution. We are patriotic Americans who cherish our freedom. We are willing to advocate for our natural right to defend our lives with modern tools built for that purpose.”
–Doug Hamlin, executive vice president and CEO of the NRA
“We who believe that every person in our nation should have the freedom to live safe from the terror of gun violence, will finally pass red-flag laws, universal background checks and an assault-weapons ban.”
–Vice President Kamala Harris (D)
