Unclogging The Minds Of Anti-Gunners

No one likes to be called stupid, but that is precisely what the gun-grabbers do every time they tell us, “We’re not looking to take anyone’s guns.” We routinely hear it from the president and his hired liar Josh Earnest. We hear it from Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Michael Bloomberg, Chris Murphy and the rest of the country’s who’s-who of the movement to disarm law-abiding Americans. There is no doubt that all guns these unmitigated nerds consider to be “scary-looking” are included.

Of course, they really are talking about taking guns from tens of millions of Americans who own an amazingly broad array of semi-automatic firearms and from millions more who aspire to one day own certain guns. It’s the so-called “assault weapons” that they are after, at least for the moment.

In their perverted way of thinking, these things range from a teen’s Ruger 10/22 squirrel gun, to grandpa’s Benelli goose gun, to the Daniel Defense suppressed AR-15 that I’ve taught kids as young as five years old to use to successfully hunt deer and hogs in Texas. There is no doubt that all guns these unmitigated nerds consider to be “scary-looking” are included.

We’re all supposed to simply ignore the fact that the president has regularly been touting Australia’s enormous mandatory turn-in program, instituted in 1996, as a model that the United States would be smart to follow. We should dismiss the fact that The New York Times’ editorial board recently took to the front page, exceptionally rare turf for its usual blabber, to argue that it’s time for Americans to turn over their arms and make themselves utterly defenseless for the good of the whole.

How hard is it for Hillary Clinton and the others to admit that even the ban on the future sale and transfer of most semi-automatic firearms that they advocate is really “taking” guns from people? It is denying all existing and future Americans the choice and the ability to acquire products that are currently available. If the government suddenly banned the future sale and transfer of all two-door coupes capable of speeds in excess of 120 mph, there is not an American anywhere who wouldn’t say the government is “taking” all sports cars from them. There’s no other way to say it or think about it.

One group that unabashedly advocates for gun confiscation in America is the Violence Policy Center (VPC). Public officials like Clinton and Obama regularly use the group’s propaganda in their public statements. Some of their favorite borrowed material includes:

There is no reason for assault rifles, assault pistols, and assault shotguns to be sold in the civilian market. These weapons are designed with only one purpose:  to kill as many people as possible in the shortest possible amount of time.

Well, I guess someone should have told me this when I bought all of the guns I own like the ones the VPC is referencing here. I mean, I’ve shot literally hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition through these guns over the years and have killed exactly no one. I have more friends than I can count who seem to have found all of these other purposes for these guns as well. Go figure. What are we doing wrong? Is it possible that my buddies and I might know more about guns than Josh Sugarmann, the government dependent who runs VPC? I mean, I’ve shot literally hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition through these guns over the years and have killed exactly no one.

Here are just three of the many other purposes my friends and I have found for the guns Sugarmann, Obama, Clinton, Bloomberg and the others want to ban (we’ll contemplate only the AR-15 platform here, since it is what they envision most often when they daydream about their bans):

1) Self-Defense

One of the reasons it is so difficult to have any reasonable discussion with anti-gunners is that they don’t accept the possibility of ever needing a gun to defend against attack. They don’t live in reality and they see themselves as leaves blowing in the wind. Their ultimate fate is out of their hands.

My mindset is that I want to control my own destiny to the extent possible. With regard to keeping bad people from doing bad things to me or my loved ones, this means having the most effective and efficient defensive tools as practicable under the circumstances at the ready at all times. In most cases in public, this means carrying a handgun. Home is another matter.

If bad guys decide they want to get into my house while I’m home and take my stuff or do worse, I don’t want it to be a fair fight. If there is an absolute breakdown in societal order like what we saw in Los Angeles during the riots of 1992, and the roving hordes are free to loot, burn and murder, I don’t want it to be a fair fight when they come. I want to have the ultimate defensive tools.

Based upon what I see my friends in law enforcement and the military carrying during particularly dangerous times, this is the AR (I can be a little partial to the AK, but that’s a discussion for another day). If you go back to the second sentence of the VPC nonsense quoted above and substitute “incapacitate” for “kill,” and “attackers” for “people” it should all make sense, as long as you don’t make your living by trying to deprive your fellow Americans of their essential individual liberties.

2) Taking Kids Hunting

There are few things I enjoy more than introducing young kids to the hunting of game like deer and wild hogs. I have taken many between the ages of five and 10 over the last several years, and their success rate is 100 percent. You might be able to tell that I’m as proud of this as I am of just about anything. These hunts have generated some of the best memories of my life.

Much of this would not be possible without the fantastic platform that is the AR-15. The stock is easily adjustable to fit the smallest boy or girl. The low-power round that Josh so ignorantly classifies as “high-power” produces almost no felt recoil to disrupt all that goes into good shooting. The compact and light nature of the rifle makes it manageable for kids to carry and manipulate. Finally, the factory-threaded barrels make it easy to suppress them, something that helps to eliminate much of the flinch-inducing “bang” and further moderate the already-light recoil. As Colion Noir makes clear to everyone, these things can become works of art that are truly appealing to the eye.

3) Fun

It is just plain fun to shoot an AR or any of the other rifles the nuts want to ban. This is especially true when it comes to shooting steel targets at relatively close quarters under the clock, and going head-to-head against friends like Colion, Katy, Edgar and Amy on “NOIR.” Every time I head to the range with an AR or AK in the truck, I have a smile on my face. It’s there for a reason.

While it’s expensive, it is also fun to accessorize rifles with sights, suppressors, slings, lights, and custom stocks and grips. As Colion Noir makes clear to everyone, these things can become works of art that are truly appealing to the eye. They can define cool. Hollywood doesn’t throw them into most of its action movies because no one wants to see them.

So, the anti-gunners regularly play the unwashed masses for stupid when they say they don’t really want to take anyone’s guns and that certain scary-looking firearms have but one sinister purpose. Their own words and the last few paragraphs prove that they lie. Nothing will make them stop. The only thing that is controllable here is making sure our fellow citizens don’t buy what they’re selling. We’re all responsible for ensuring they aren’t as ignorant as the cynical politicians need them to be.
