Tom Ridge: Gun Control Wouldn’t Have Stopped Attack In Orlando

posted on June 28, 2016

The former secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush had strong words for House Democrats last week. Tom Ridge told John Catsimatidis’ “The Cats Roundtable” radio listeners, “You kind of wonder what kind of glasses some of the Democrats are wearing as they look at that horrible tragedy.”

In the wake of the Orlando terror attack on a nightclub, Democrats held a protracted sit-in on the chamber floor hoping to force a vote on gun reform. Earlier, the Senate had rejected several pieces of gun-control legislation—including a ban preventing those on terrorist watch lists from purchasing firearms without due process of the law.

Ridge said that wouldn’t have prevented the attacks, “OK. I get that. ... But this is totally unrelated to the incident in Orlando where the murderer pledged allegiance to [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] and was probably inspired and converted by the virtue of the Internet and some of his travels.”
