Texas Governor Signs Open And Campus Carry Bills

posted on June 15, 2015

“Today is a day when Republicans and Democrats are united saying that we will live up to the promise of the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution—including the Second Amendment. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

With those words, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed the open carry and campus carry bills into law Saturday. Open carry will go into effect Jan. 1, 2016, and campus carry takes effect on Aug. 1, 2016.

The governor signed one of the bills at Red’s Indoor Range, a popular gun store and shooting range in Pflugerville. Following the ceremony, he took the opportunity to fire off a few rounds.

“There is nothing more important in democracy than the voice of the people stepping up and saying ‘We expect the Constitution of the United States of America to be our guiding doctrine,’” concluded Abbott.
