The West Virginia Senate Judiciary on Thursday passed a measure that would expand Sunday hunting opportunities in the state.
Currently, West Virginia allows hunting on Sundays in some counties on some private land. Senate Bill 345, sponsored by Republican state Sen. Mark Maynard, would remove the confusing patchwork of counties where hunting on Sundays on private land is not allowed.
Sunday hunting laws only remain in a few states, and are largely opposed by American hunters who work full-time during the week and are currently only able to utilize half of their weekend for their favorite pastime. Additionally, such bans discourage hunting at a time when hunter recruitment and participation must be encouraged in order to save our hunting heritage.
