Some Brits Call For Right To Bear Arms

posted on June 10, 2017

In the wake of the latest terrorist activity in London, British gun-rights activists are calling for citizens to be given the right to arms. Last Saturday, ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack that left eight dead after terrorists ran vehicles into a crowd, then stabbed dozens of people.

“These tragedies may have been the eye-opener to just how ineffective our laws are,” Dave Ewing of Firearms-UK told Vocativ. The gun-rights group also called out the UK government in a Facebook post: “They have the 24-hour armed bodyguards protecting them while they continue to sell the lie that firearms are not suitable for personal protection and continue to harass legal gun owners.”

Other groups, including England Wants Its Guns Back, Arm UK Citizens and Legalize Guns in the UK, also took to social media to advocate for the right to bear arms. And a campaign by Firearms United called Carry Now made its debut this week. It calls for law-abiding citizens to be afforded the right to carry a firearm for self-defense—“firearms in the right hands can save lives,” the site touts.
