According to a brand new FBI report, 2,243,030 background checks were conducted through the National Instant Check System (NICS) on firearm purchasers in November 2015—topping the previous record set in November 2013 by more than 200,000 and representing the seventh straight month for record gun sales in the United States.
Capping the record was Nov. 27—Black Friday—when NICS checks shattered the single-day record with more than 185,000 background checks in the 24-hour period.
The record-breaking trend began in May, then has continued through June, July, August, September and October. As gun-ban advocates continue calling for more restrictive gun laws, it appears that many Americans are answering those calls by heading to their local gun shops.
