One of the most exciting attractions at this year’s NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Atlanta is the booth for the NRA Carry Guard initiative, complete with a virtual reality experience that perfectly encapsulates the program’s groundbreaking approach. After putting on the VR headset, the user acts out an immersive “use of force” scenario involving a confrontation with an armed criminal. But the experience doesn’t end there—having neutralized the threat, the user is disarmed and detained by police officers. It is just as important to take the correct actions in this latter part of the experience as it is during the defensive scenario.

What this virtual reality experience teaches is a principle at the core of NRA Carry Guard: Every defensive gun use has an aftermath, and a scenario that lasts only seconds can have consequences that stretch on for months or years. You may have the training necessary to properly defend yourself—but are you prepared for what comes next? “You’ll walk out of it thinking you’re a ninja!” – Dana Loesch

NRA Carry Guard offers innovative training tailored to real-life conditions, but it also aims to prepare you for—and protect you from—the unpleasant, expensive legal ramifications of a defensive shooting. Along with the program’s top-of-the-line insurance packages, you will learn what to expect in the courtroom and how to plan accordingly, courtesy of the “Rights & Responsibilities” video curriculum.

Of course, all of this is based on the kind of innovative, comprehensive firearms instruction that you demand from the NRA. NRA Carry Guard’s training program instills a practiced grasp of the fundamentals, based on the belief that “the best do the basics better.”

Dana Loesch appeared live on NRATV from the Georgia World Congress Center along with three members of NRA Carry Guard’s leadership team: Veteran U.S. Navy SEAL George Severence, NRA Carry Guard National Director; Veteran U.S. Navy SEAL Eric Frohardt, NRA Carry Guard Training Director; and Veteran U.S. Army Green Beret Jeff Houston, NRA Carry Guard Lead Instructor. They described in detail the development of the training curriculum and what participants can expect to gain from the experience. Dana, who went through the three-day Level 1 training course, says that “You’ll walk out of it thinking you’re a ninja!” You can watch the entire special here.
