Much-Hyped Gun Control Drama “Miss Sloane” Tanks On Opening Weekend

First, America voted thumbs-down on gun control at the polls on Election Day. Now, they appear to be voting it down at the box office, too.

“Miss Sloane,” the much-hyped gun-control drama starring Jessica Chastain, flopped over the weekend. The film made a mere $1.9 million, making it one of the worst opening weekends ever.

The Washington Free Beacon reports that the Brady Campaign claimed victory in defeat: “‘Miss Sloane’ marks another chapter in Brady’s partnership with Hollywood to integrate the realities of gun violence into entertainment,” boasted Brendan Kelley, Brady’s press secretary. “While I’m not qualified to forecast how a film will perform, I can tell you that its production alone, with our input, is the success.” (The film’s director told The Washington Post that he did not offer the script to the Brady Campaign.)

We doubt that Hollywood will echo Brady’s enthusiasm—nor will investors, who might think twice before inviting Brady to advise on script development again.
