According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office, a Gonzales, La., woman armed herself in self-defense against her violent ex-boyfriend. This decision may have saved her life. Deputies say that the victim returned home Sept. 27 to find her Gonzales apartment ransacked. She filed a report with police, indicating ongoing domestic turmoil with her ex-boyfriend Jonathan Beaureau, 35, of Sorrento.
After the break-in, the Gonzales Police Department helped the victim apply for a temporary restraining order against Beaureau. Three days later, Beaureau blocked the victim’s car with his truck in the courthouse parking lot and proceeded to threaten her. She then called 911 and pulled out her handgun, warning that she would fire if he came any closer. Police responded and Beaureau was arrested, charged with improper telephone communications, stalking and threatening a police officer. Officials say Beaureau has a lengthy criminal history and has been previously charged with simple battery, domestic abuse battery and possession of marijuana.
