An illuminating blog post by AWR Hawkins points out that while the anti-gun left is busy slamming the NRA for its opposition to legislation prohibiting individuals on an FBI terrorist watch-list from owning guns, the Huffington Post has previously run material highlighting how innocent people end up on such a list. These are the same reasons that NRA doesn’t want Americans being deprived of their Second Amendment rights without due process.

Of course, the difference here is in context: The original HuffPo article wasn’t addressing gun ownership. When it comes to this topic, mainstream media outlets aren’t so much ignorant as they are cynical. They understand the problems with watch-lists perfectly well, right up to the point where they proclaim, “NRA is arming the terrorists!” Dumbing down this issue for political points does a huge disservice to American news consumers.
