History has not been on the side of gun-control proponents when it comes to winning presidential elections. But Hillary Clinton, allowing her deep-seated hatred of guns to overshadow political acumen, has pledged to make gun control a voting issue for Democrats.
It’s a strategy few would recommend—including, it seems, fellow gun-control proponents. Die-hard anti-gunner Gavin Newsom warned, “I think she’s taking a big risk.” The California lieutenant governor, who “couldn’t agree with Clinton more” on her gun stance, was a little surprised: “I didn’t expect that.”
Nevertheless, the Democratic presidential hopeful plows on. “The political calculus has changed—candidates are now running on gun safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, utilizing the gun banners’ latest euphuism for “gun control.”
More power to you, Hillary. If Tuesday’s results are any indication, American voters are ready to show you exactly what they think of your gun control.
