Helping Hands From Hunters

posted on June 29, 2015

We’ve reported how some residents of upstate New York were reacting to the prison break of two murderers from the Clinton Correctional Facility with an eye to their firearms. While residents can now breathe a sigh of relief, as both escapees have been accounted for—Richard Matt was found and killed by Border Patrol officers last week, while his accomplice, David Sweat, was taken into custody by state police yesterday—it seems they were right to take this attitude, as at least one of the killers was armed.

Law enforcement knew that Matt was armed, and roughly where they should be looking for him, thanks to the efforts of local hunters. Authorities had issued a widespread call to deploy trail cameras earlier this month, leading to a time-stamped video of both men that helped to greatly narrow the search perimeter.

This happy outcome was brought about by the excellent work of law enforcement and the vigilance of hunters.
