Now that President Joe Biden (D) has bowed out of the 2024 election, gun-control groups are rapidly throwing their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris (D), whom Biden has also endorsed.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” wrote Biden on X.
As Biden and Harris formed the most anti-Second Amendment ticket in history, it should come as no surprise that anti-Second Amendment groups that supported Biden now move to Harris. Here is what these groups had to say of the presumptive nominee.
“Following President Joe Biden’s announcement today that he will not seek reelection, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention group, endorses Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next Democratic presidential candidate,” wrote the gun-control group Brady.
The group also touted this administration’s passage of the misleadingly named Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the establishment of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention (which Harris heads) and the confirmation of Steve Dettelbach to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
“Alongside President Joe Biden, Vice President Harris built the strongest gun violence prevention presidential administration in history,” wrote Brady President Kris Brown.
Similarly, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D), founder of the gun-control group Giffords, wrote, “I am proud to endorse @KamalaHarris’s historic candidacy for President of the United States. She will make a great president, and her strong, steadfast leadership will save lives. [Sen.] Mark [Kelly (D-Ariz.)] and I will do everything we can to ensure she is elected in November.”
Interestingly, Everytown, the gun-control group funded by failed 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg (D), offered praise for the Biden administration, but did not explicitly endorse Harris at time this was being written.
“With the life-saving progress the Biden-Harris Administration has made on gun safety at risk, Everytown’s number one priority will be defeating the Trump-Vance ticket and their extremist agenda in November,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown.
Everytown, however, is not alone in lambasting former President Trump and, more recently, J.D. Vance. Whereas Everytown dishonestly classifies these views as “extremist,” this is far from the truth.
Of course, it is hardly extreme to work within the political process to protect the Second Amendment.
Such is why the NRA endorsed Donald Trump to return to the White House along with J.D. Vance. Trump’s record, along with Vance’s in the Senate, stands in stark contrast to the actions that Kamala Harris has taken while vice president in the Biden administration.
“Harris has never shown herself to be a thinking person who will look for solutions, even if they are outside of her usual politics. So, in essence, she is a puppet for the ideologues on her staff and in other parts of the administration. In this, she is very much like Joe Biden. And so, like Biden, she would, if she gets the chance, raise her right hand and swear to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then, as soon as practically possible, proceed to blithely attempt to take away our constitutionally protected freedom,” wrote America’s 1st Freedom Editor in Chief Frank Miniter of what Harris would do if elected.
While Harris has not announced a running mate yet, America’s 1st Freedom will keep you updated on whoever the vice president picks in what will undoubtedly be yet another anti-freedom ticket.
