A man—with past convictions for crimes involving drugs and firearms—was charged with falsifying documents to obtain an Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID).
The felon is accused of lying by filling out a form with false information “by answering ‘No’ to the application question, ‘Have you ever been convicted of a felony under the laws of this or any other jurisdiction,’” officials said.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s office, the felon then apparently “was approved for a FOID card.”
Seizing 15 guns, detectives arrested the felon on charges that included 15 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon (Class 3 felonies) as well as obstructing justice (a Class 4 felony).
Authorities were investigating to determine if the man changed his name “to buy more guns.”
