The Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program has been teaching firearm-accident prevention for over 30 years, to help keep our children safe. This program teaches Pre-K through fourth grade children what to do if they come across an unsupervised firearm: Stop; Don’t touch; Run away; Tell a grown-up!

Visit eddieeagle.com for virtual lessons, storybooks, sing-alongs, coloring pages, challenge questions and workbooks to assist in getting the message across. A special kid-friendly webpage called The Eddie Eagle Tree House provides an interactive element. Here, Eddie Eagle and the Wing Team engage children with catchy songs, dance moves and entertaining dialogue that teaches them what to do if they ever come across a firearm. Your child may discover they’re a natural leader like Eddie Eagle or have a good sense of humor like Fiona Falcon. They’ll also find relatable themes such as sports, friends, problem solving and peer pressure situations.

Created in 1988 by Marion Hammer (who would later become NRA President from 1995-1998) and updated in 2015, the Eddie Eagle program was created with input from educators, school administrators, curriculum specialist, urban housing safety officials, clinical psychologists, law-enforcement officials and NRA firearm safety experts. It is appropriate to use at home, in schools, or in organizations working with children. “This program is absolutely appropriate for schools because it’s about safety,” notes Dr. Lisa Monroe, who was on the team that helped create Eddie Eagle’s curriculum guidelines.

NRA proudly offers free Eddie Eagle materials to any law enforcement agency, educational facility, hospital, or library across the nation. Funds raised by Friends of NRA and distributed through The NRA Foundation (nrafoundation.org) enable budget-strapped schools and police departments to teach the program at minimal or no cost. As a result, the program has reached over 32 million children in all 50 states, plus Canada and Puerto Rico.

We teach our children about stranger danger and internet safety, so why not include gun safety? The goal of the Eddie Eagle GunSafe program is to prevent gun-related accidents and to keep our children safe.
