Democrats Look To Block Christie’s Plan To Ease NJ Gun Laws

posted on April 27, 2016

“Serious but generalized threats.”

That’s what Governor Chris Christie proposes as satisfactory reason to carry a gun, which would signify a major change to New Jersey’s restrictive gun laws. Of course, Democratic lawmakers have vowed to fight Christie’s administration, offering only a promise to help better enforce the existing, and often discounted, condition that police process gun permits in under a month.

Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg told New Jersey 101.5, “It would allow every cab driver, pizza delivery driver, Uber driver and anyone else living or working in a high-crime neighborhood to qualify for a firearm permit.” Which is just as it should be. In making the bid, Christie cited the case of Carol Bowne, who was stabbed to death outside her home in Berlin, N.J., last June. Though Bowne had a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, he attacked and killed her as she was waiting on a response to her gun-permit request—a response that was way overdue.
