Hillary Clinton ramped up her gun-control rhetoric in advance of today’s primary, but is her message out of touch? The presidential hopeful promised Newtown, Conn., families that, “I will use every single minute of every day, if I’m fortunate to be your president, looking for ways to save lives so we can change the gun culture.”

But are U.S. citizens really looking for a president who will spend “every single minute of every day” on gun control, when bigger issues like the economy, employment and healthcare need to be addressed? A recent Quinnipiac poll shows only 3 percent of likely Democratic voters cited gun policy as the most important issue in deciding who to support.

As Paul Feeney, Massachusetts state director for the Bernie Sanders campaign, noted, “When we go out and we talk door to door, people want to know if they have a job in the future.”
