President Joe Biden’s (D) nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), David Chipman, will appear before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee regarding his nomination May 26.

Nearly 70 House Republicans have called him an “enemy of the Second Amendment,” in a letter to their Senate colleagues. Meanwhile, more than a dozen Democrat state attorneys general have praised Biden’s nominee.

Chipman has an extensive anti-gun history, having recently worked as a senior-policy adviser for the anti-gun group Giffords. He also spent time working for Michael Bloomberg’s gun-ban group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

He has also ridiculed the NRA and, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he mocked first-time firearms buyers who sought to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The NRA opposes Chipman’s nomination to lead the ATF. “It is clear that, if confirmed, Chipman would use every tool at his disposal to attack the rights of law-abiding American gun owners. Chipman’s views on the Second Amendment and his work as a gun prohibitionist should disqualify him from serving as the Director of the ATF,” wrote the NRA Institute for Legislative Action.

A1F.com will keep you informed about what transpires throughout Chipman’s hearing through the coming days.
