Anti-Gunners Urging Florida Governor To Veto Self-Defense Measure

posted on June 3, 2017

State Bill 128, commonly known as Burden of Proof, is sitting on Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s desk awaiting his signature. The measure would restore the presumption of innocence in self-defense cases by putting the burden of proof back on the state, where it belongs.

SB 128 is common-sense legislation, which mean, of course, that liberals are vehemently opposed to the bill. “Getting away with murder in Florida could soon be easier,” blared one headline. “Will make communities less safe,” declared another. Meanwhile, anti-gun organizations have been lobbying hard to get Scott to veto the bill.

The truth is, this legislation was introduced by Sen. Rob Bradley and Rep. Bobby Payne after a road rage incident left an innocent citizen facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm after pulling a gun in self-defense. Should Gov. Scott sign the bill, Florida would become the first to place the burden of proof on the state in Stand Your Ground self-defense cases.
