Women are obtaining concealed-carry permits at twice the pace of men. At least, that’s been the case during President Barack Obama’s second term.
A recent study by the Crime Prevention Research Center brings to light some interesting statistics compiled from the years of Obama’s presidency. Since 2007, the number of concealed handgun permits has risen to more than 14.5 million. The total proportion of the adult population with permits now stands at 6.06 percent.
Women represent the biggest movers. Of the states that provide data by gender, the last four years show the number of women seeking concealed carry permits has doubled that of men.
So what has this increase in permit holders brought? Lower crime rates. Between 2007 and 2015, murder rates fell from 5.6 to 4.7 per 100,000 people—a 16 percent drop. Overall violent crime fell by 18 percent. In other words—more guns, less crime.
