Cynical actress/comedian Amy Schumer, cousin to gun-ban proponent Sen. Charles Schumer, recently told media at the Locarno Film Festival in Italy that the reason more restrictive federal gun-control laws haven’t passed in the United States in the last several years is because of “the money.”
It’s a common refrain from the gun-ban crowd, and it is wrong. Consider that billionaire Michael Bloomberg pledged to spend $50 million in the last major election, and the majority of his candidates experienced dismal losses.
The truth is easy to understand, if you take a look at recent public opinion polling. Support for the Second Amendment continues to grow, reaching an all-time high over the past few years. This majority of pro-gun citizens is represented by a majority of legislators at the federal level—men and women elected to represent their constituents. It’s really as simple as that.
