Stacey Abrams recently announced that she is once again running for the governorship of Georgia, having come up short just a few years ago.

With her announcement, Abrams will likely bring her history of anti-Second Amendment stances to the Georgia election next year.

In 2018, Abrams outright stated her desire to ban AR-15s, which she mislabeled as “assault weapons.” In an interview on “The View,” Abrams said, “I do not believe weapons of mass destruction, like the AR-15, belong in civilian hands. I think it should be prohibited from civilian use.”

“We have had a ban on assault weapons before in the United States and I think that we should do it again,” said Abrams, before she added, “I do want to push back on any notion that I believe the Second Amendment is not the law of the land. I support the Second Amendment.”

According to data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), nearly 20 million of these rifles that Abrams wants to ban are in circulation; moreover, as the 2008 Heller decision affirmed, the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own arms in common use for lawful purposes. With that many AR-15-style rifles lawfully owned throughout the nation, it’s contradictory for Abrams to promote such a ban while claiming to support the Second Amendment.

She also voiced her support for “universal” background checks, “red-flag” laws, and many other overreaching measures during her 2018 run. She also picked up endorsements from the anti-gun groups Giffords and the Bloomberg-funded Everytown.

“Stacey Abrams’ radical anti-gun agenda is dangerous. She has led the fight for extreme gun control in the state legislature. If elected governor, she would work to enact policies that would leave law-abiding Georgians defenseless,” wrote the NRA Political Victory Fund (PVF) at the time, while also launching an ad campaign to inform voters of Abrams’ plans for your rights.

Thankfully, she was defeated in 2018. We’ll keep you up to date on how the race in Georgia progresses here at A1F.com.
