You and I are now living through an unprecedented era in our nation’s history. Violent crime is soaring nationwide, and it’s no coincidence that it’s happening at a time when major political leaders and far-left interest groups are intent on making America less safe and less free.

This is nothing like the “soft on crime vs. hard on crime” debate that many of us remember from the early ‘90s. Rather, we are witnessing certifiably dangerous actions being taken by many governors, mayors and politicians that can only be described as “pro-criminal.”

Emptying prisons. Refusing to arrest and prosecute violent criminals. No-cash bail. Defunding and dismantling police departments.

None of this can be seen as merely turning a blind eye to crime. Rather, it can only be seen as deliberately and actively encouraging criminal behavior.

Even former New York City Police Chief and gun-control advocate Bill Bratton recently admitted our current crime problem is born from a broken justice system.

Cherishing our freedom and fighting for it is perhaps the most decent, pure and just cause anyone could ever undertake.

“Our criminal justice system literally collapsed during the coronavirus epidemic,” he said.

“There are a lot of very bad people in our society and they need to be separated from the rest of us. The progressive left is really pushing the idea of alternative types of treatment rather than incarceration. I’m sorry; some people need to be locked up.”

Bratton continued: “Sounds now like most of the prosecutors in the country and our major cities are more focused on effectively defending the criminals than defending the public and victims.”

“We’re going in the wrong direction; we’re going in many wrong directions at the moment.”

It’s no exaggeration to say that we are now living through an Orwellian nightmare where criminals are coddled, and law-abiding gun owners are attacked and vilified for simply exercising their constitutional freedom.

And so it’s no wonder why, in the past two years, many millions of Americans have decided to become first-time gun owners. They see what’s happening. They understand there is a near-total lack of real political leadership toward solving the crime problem. And they’re rationally preparing for the increasingly dangerous and chaotic world that surrounds them.

Likewise, it’s no wonder why our NRA family has welcomed an average of 1,000 new members into our ranks per day this year. The National Rifle Association has always stood as a rock-solid island of sanity amidst the turbulent chaos created by irrational, and frankly sinister, politicians who absolutely do not have our best interests at heart. We are a sanctuary for sanity, and normal, decent, law-abiding Americans are flocking to our shores.

You’ll often hear anti-gun, anti-freedom politicians and their allies in the media lament that America is “awash in guns.” Elitists like Michael Bloomberg and so many in Hollywood smirk, frown and shake their heads in disgust at regular folks like us. They ridicule our choice to own and carry firearms.

One far-left author not too long ago, in a widely circulated article, wrote “America’s obsession with guns is a real mental illness.”

What the sheltered elites don’t understand is that our “obsessions” are geared toward the natural rights and individual responsibilities that make life in America exceptional among all nations. We are indeed “obsessed” with defending and preserving our lives and the lives of our loved ones, now more than ever. We’re “obsessed” with keeping our communities safe, especially in a time when politicians are actively making them more dangerous.

In short, we’re obsessed with safety, security and freedom—and because of that, NRA members will always passionately and jealously safeguard our Second Amendment rights.

Cherishing our freedom and fighting for it is perhaps the most decent, pure and just cause anyone could ever undertake. Scheming and plotting to take someone else’s freedom away from them? Now that’s a truly deranged endeavor that’s been attempted throughout history by the world’s worst monsters.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
