Country star Lee Greenwood, often referred to as “America’s Patriot,” recently said, “I’m proud to be an American and I believe in God, family and our country. I also believe in the Second Amendment and I’m proud that the American flag still stands for freedom.” In this day and age, it’s refreshing to hear an entertainer and public figure who isn’t afraid to make his beliefs known. Greenwood, a Life Member, has not only performed for NRA members at Annual Meetings but also for eight Presidents of the United States. He’s a music icon who has traveled the country, from sea to shining sea, delighting audiences with multiple hits including his generational smash, “God Bless the USA.” NRA Country’s Vanessa Shahidi took a moment to ask Greenwood a few questions.
VS: What makes the USA the greatest country on Earth?
LG: We are unparalleled in our freedom. Our military is the best in the world and our lifestyle reflects our ease to travel. The USA is a remarkable place.
VS: Who taught you how to about firearms?
LG: I learned to shoot as a pre-teen with help from my grandfather. It was safety first, then learning to shoot with a rifle at gauge distance. I didn’t start shooting with a shotgun until my wife and I began shooting together when we were at my theater in east Tennessee. We joined a gun club in the Great Smoky Mountains and all in all, we love the sport.
VS: What is one of your more memorable experiences shooting?
LG: I participated in the Charlton Heston shoot in Los Angeles. We both shot well and were on the winning teams. Louise Mandrell also had a celebrity shoot here in Nashville. Those were both a lot of fun.
VS: What can fans expect from you in 2021?
LG: I’m in the studio finishing a 20-song all-original CD for release next year. We’re focused now on 2021 as we are preparing to launch the Super Hits tour that was originally planned for 2020.
