Yes, America, gun rights are on the ballot this year, and not just in terms of referendums (like Initiative 1639). Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund is spending millions to back political candidates in Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and New Mexico.
Think the midterms don’t matter? Think again.
Everytown has set aside an estimated $8 million to $10 million for campaign funding in the aforementioned states. The money will go primarily toward advertising for candidates who promote so-called “gun safety”—a guise for their plan to strip away the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.
But that $8 million to $10 million might just be a starting point. John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, says that’s just the curtain raiser on planned spending for this year’s election. And if the group makes headway in this year’s midterms, you can bet that 2020 will see an influx of cash like we’ve never seen before.
The 2020 election is reportedly on Bloomberg’s radar in a big way that goes beyond his conventional financial backing. The Washington Times is reporting that he’s gearing up for a presidential run.
