Oklahoma Neighbor Who Saved Babies Won’t Face Charges

posted on July 10, 2017

The Pontotoc County, Okla., district attorney has decided not to prosecute an Ada man who shot and killed his neighbor to keep the man from drowning his two babies.

A statement from the DA’s office read: “Mr. Freeman reported that even after firing two (2) shots, he still considered the decedent to be a threat observing him to [be] armed with the knife and responding to the cries of the mother to help her because she felt the children were going to die, and viewing the decedent's evil intent expressed in his facial expression, he felt compelled to fire the third shot to attempt to get past this violent man to render aid and prevent the man from getting back up to harm anyone anymore."

After the shooting, the neighbor, Cash Freeman, told local media that he just did what he had to in order to save the babies. The babies’ mother, Michelle Sorrells, hailed Freeman as a hero. “He saved me and my babies’ lives,” she told koco.com. “There won’t be a day that goes by when I don’t thank him for that.”
