And then there was one.

When Bob Robb of Grandview Media killed his buck at about 8 a.m. this morning, I became the only hunter left in our party to not kill a deer yet. But with a day and a half of the hunt with Rut & Strut Guide Service still remaining, I’m not worried—yet.

(If you missed them, check out our earlier reports—Travel Day, Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3

Thursday evening found deer movement much slower than Thursday morning, with only a spike and four does passing by my blind. While the weather and location were both good, deer movement in the area had really tapered off.

I found the same to be true on my Friday morning hunt, with the location that showed me 15 bucks on Thursday morning pretty much devoid of action. I saw one big buck early, before shooting time, but it was too dark to tell how big he was. The rest of the morning resulted in just a couple of does passing by.

With rain coming in tonight, I’ve got to hurry back to the field and see if I can get one more chance at a trophy buck before the weather changes for the worse.

Score: Deer – 4; Mark – 0.

Tune in on Monday morning for a complete wrap-up of my hunt, sponsored by Bushnell, Remington and Hunters Specialties.
