Washington, D.C., which boasts some of the most restrictive gun-control laws in the nation, continues to see the failure of such restrictions, which only affect the law-abiding.
Newly released figures show the District experienced a whopping 54 percent increase in murders in 2015. The 119 homicides in 2015 outpaced the total of 105 in 2014, 104 in 2013 and 88 in 2012.
D.C. wasn’t alone in the increase, however. While the majority of American cities saw a continued reduction in violence, Chicago, Baltimore and New York City—all municipalities with restrictive gun laws—experienced a substantial increase in murders in 2015. Ironically, in mid-December the D.C. City Council unanimously passed a resolution urging Congress to impose “sensible and comprehensive gun control” in a city that already has some of the nation’s most onerous anti-gun laws.
