It Will Never Be Enough

If you believe you will ever hear gun control zealots the likes of Michael Bloomberg, Shannon Watts, Dan Gross, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer declare that they’ve secured “just the right amount” of gun control, I’ve got a Barrett M82A1 for sale that can be shot off-hand as easily as a Red Ryder. Never be mistaken. They want it all—everything!

It seems as if too many relatively informed people—even gun owners—don’t understand this. All too often, they tell me gun rights supporters need to surrender this issue or that issue to show that we are “reasonable.” No, we don’t. We are the reasonable and logical ones here. It’s the other side that is driven by raw emotion used to justify their routine dishonesty. Who is telling them they should be “reasonable”? If some liberty is surrendered to them, there will only be less of it to defend when the next, inevitable wave of attacks comes.

These are the same people who spent most of Obama’s first term telling me that the NRA was misleading voters when it accused him of being one of the most anti-gun presidential candidates in U.S. history. Some will call me Chicken Little. That’s fine. They can deny reality if they choose. These are the same people who spent most of Obama’s first term telling me that the NRA was misleading voters when it accused him of being one of the most anti-gun presidential candidates in U.S. history. Yeah, right. His second term freed him from the fear of direct political consequences, so he has been more than happy to prove that NRA was right once again. Thank you for putting an end to the argument, Mr. President.

Fact is, I’ve dedicated much of my life to ensuring these maniacs never have the opportunity to vindicate my claim that they won’t rest until every firearm in civilian hands is an illegal one. Making them fail is my passion. I usually feel a twinge of pity when I see people lose, but it’s easy not to feel bad for those who want to strip me and other Americans of the most essential individual freedoms. What they do is shameful, but how they do it might be worse.

Dishonesty is the name of the game for them. They simply do not care about the truth, and the media enables them by not viewing what they say and do with a critical eye. One needs to look no further than the names of their organizations.

Mike Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns is a prime example. Illegal guns? What do illegal guns have to do with legislation that requires jurisdictions around the country to treat my concealed handgun license with the same respect they do my driver’s license? What does campus carry, restaurant carry, grocery store carry, open carry or any kind of carry by someone who is not a prohibited possessor of firearms have to do with “illegal” guns? Why do they want all big-box stores to stop selling guns when all of the guns being sold are “legal” by definition?

If you listen closely when they talk, it’s apparent that they think of all guns as being illegal. This is seriously premature wishful thinking on their part, but a poker player would call this a “tell.” Their words indicate one thing, their actions another. I’m talking about their active opposition to every policy proposal benefiting law-abiding gun owners, even to the slightest degree.

Bloomberg told the CBS Today Show audience, “Nobody’s going to keep you from hunting, or target practice or protecting yourself.” Meanwhile, my friends who recently visited Washington state were prevented from the hunting and target practice that would be lawful in virtually every other state because of the ballot initiative Bloomberg funded. Fact is, I’ve dedicated much of my life to ensuring these maniacs never have the opportunity to vindicate my claim that they won’t rest until every firearm in civilian hands is an illegal one. Making them fail is my passion.
Oh, and Carol Bowne’s stalker stabbed her to death in her New Jersey driveway while she awaited the kind of government official approval for gun ownership that Bloomberg advocates. Hers is just one name. There are tens of thousands of other violent crime victims around the country who are rendered defenseless because of his favored policies. Sure Mike, whatever you say.

The controllers never say what they really mean. For instance, they regularly argue that any law that saves “just one life” is worth adopting. Never considering the true costs of their policies makes them silly and dangerous enough, but the plain ridiculousness of their claim is what really takes the cake. Just one life? How about hundreds of thousands over the next decade or two, guaranteed? A 5-mph national speed limit on our roadways would irrefutably do the trick.

Why don’t we implement it? Why would Watts, Bloomberg and the rest of their gaggle personally oppose it? The answer is because it would inconvenience their poor souls. It would take them two hours to drive to the airport, not 15 minutes. Just one life, eh? It’s just one more big lie.

What they really mean is that they want to “save lives” as long as the policy that’s supposedly doing the saving doesn’t inconvenience them. Since Bloomberg’s armed bodyguards aren’t affected by his proposed policies, he’s good to go. He couldn’t care less about the blue-collar single mother walking across the inner-city college campus after her night classes. Her helplessness can be government mandated. Mayor Mike will always have his Secret Service-like phalanx.

Spoiler alert: There are evil people in the world, and there always will be. They will do evil things like murdering good people. Some will use knives, others will use lamp chords and still others will use guns—no matter how restrictive the laws regulating their possession become. The Bloombergs, Watts and Schumers among us will always have at least one victim to use as the justification for just one more gun ban. Like everything else, they will be dishonest about the real endgame.

I was reminded of all this by what is going on in Australia right now. About 20 years ago, their gun controllers succeeded in effectively banning virtually every firearm that is reasonably well suited for self-defense, including pump-action shotguns. Now, there are plans to import a new lever-action shotgun that has an eight-round capacity. The way Gun Control Australia activists are reacting, you’d be sure that what was really being imported was the end of the world. Meanwhile in England, the anti-self-defense lobby has dedicated its attention to knives since there is little else to occupy its time. They’ve gotten the guns.

Here in America, the gun-banners have tried to ban guns that are too small and ones that are too big. They try to defeat open carry laws because they intimidate and concealed-carry laws because everyone should know the gun is present. They think handguns need to be banned because they are too easy and efficient for thugs to use but too difficult for law-abiding citizens to effectively manage. They wanted to restrict magazine capacity to 20 rounds, then 15, then 10—now seven seems to be their magic number.

It never ends. They will never be satisfied. Despite their talk about this gun or that gun being okay for civilians to own for now, they want everything. Because of the evil that will always exist, they will always have “just one more life” to “save.” We must never give ground. Our liberties came at too great a cost. We must treat every battle for gun rights like it might be our last. If we don’t, one day it might be.
