Anti-Gun Virginia Politicians Facing Backlash Over Reciprocity

posted on December 30, 2015

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring’s poke in the eye to half the nation’s gun owners—he recently rescinded Right-to-Carry reciprocity agreements with 25 states—is leading to some unintended consequences for anti-gun politicians in the Commonwealth.

Herring’s boss, equally anti-gun Gov. Terry McAuliffe, is the target of one such move, as one pro-gun state senator is pushing to have the governor’s bodyguards defunded.

“I have a budget amendment that I’m looking at to take away his executive protection unit,” Republican State Sen. Bill Carrico said of Gov. McAuliffe, who campaigned vigorously for anti-gun politicians in this fall’s elections. “If he’s so afraid of guns, then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”
